BosforTour · Answers · What to wear, when to arrive

What should I wear, and when should I arrive?

Smart casual is right for BosforTour’s Bosphorus dinner cruise, with a light layer for the open decks. Doors open at 20:00 and the boat leaves at 21:00 sharp; tables are chosen on arrival, so being aboard by about 20:30 gives you the pick of them.

Three small decisions shape how the evening feels from the first minute: what you wear, when you walk up to the pier, and which table you end up at. None of them is complicated, but the third depends on the second, and both are easier with a little notice. Here is what guests usually get right, and the one thing people sometimes get wrong.

Smart casual works perfectly. Most guests dress up a little for the evening — a shirt rather than a T-shirt, a dress or good trousers, the shoes you would wear to a nice restaurant — because it is a dinner out, and because the photographs from the deck last longer than the evening does. There is no formal dress code, and nobody needs a jacket and tie.

Two practical points matter more than style. The first is a light layer. It is breezy on the water at night even in summer, and the open decks at the bow and the stern are where you will want to be for the bridges and the palaces. In the cold months, bring your coat; the salons are heated, the decks are not. The second is shoes you can walk in. You will cross a gangway, possibly climb a few steps, and, if you dance, spend an hour on the dance floor after the show.

Guests on board during the evening
Smart casual is what most guests choose.

Doors open at 20:00 and the boat casts off at 21:00 sharp. The sweet spot is to be aboard by about 20:30. That leaves time to choose a table, settle in as the meze service begins, and catch the last of the light on the Golden Horn before the boat slips out under the Galata Bridge.

Arriving at 20:55 is possible but tight, and it means taking whatever table is left. Arriving after 21:00 means watching the boat leave: a departure with up to four hundred guests on board is not held for latecomers. If you are running late, message us on WhatsApp straight away rather than at the pier.

Plan the journey to Cibali Pier, not to Eminönü or Kabataş — going to the wrong pier is the commonest reason for a rushed arrival. With the hotel transfer, the timing is taken care of for you.

Tables are not assigned in advance; you choose yours when you come aboard. The two salons have panoramic windows and the stage is placed to be visible from the tables, so there is no bad seat — but the window tables go first, and a group that wants to sit together has more choice early.

For an anniversary, a birthday or a proposal, the romantic table is the exception: it is booked in advance, dressed with candles and flowers, for +€15. Add it in the booking form, or tell us on WhatsApp what the occasion is. More on the romantic evening.

  • Your phone, with the WhatsApp chat where your booking and the map pin were sent.
  • Payment for the evening, which is settled on board: cash in euros, Turkish lira or US dollars, or a card.
  • A layer or a coat, depending on the season, for the decks.

Nothing else is needed. Dinner, soft drinks and the show are included; the drinks package, if you chose it, is waiting at the bar.

The boat is back alongside at Cibali Pier between 23:45 and midnight. Plan the way back from there: a taxi from the pier is the simplest, the hotel transfer takes you to your door if you booked it, and what still runs on public transport at that hour is in our guide to getting around Istanbul.

Is there a dress code?
No formal one. Smart casual works perfectly, and most guests dress up a little. Bring a light layer for the open decks, and a coat in winter.
What time should I arrive?
Doors open at 20:00 and the boat leaves at 21:00 sharp. Arriving by about 20:30 gives you time to choose your table.
Can we reserve a specific table?
Tables are chosen on arrival rather than assigned in advance. The one table you can book ahead is the romantic table, with candles and flowers, for +€15.
What happens if we are late?
The boat leaves at 21:00 sharp and cannot wait. If you are running late, message us on WhatsApp as early as you can.
Do I need to print anything?
No. Your booking is confirmed on WhatsApp, along with the map pin for the pier; your phone is all you need.

The whole evening, from the doors to the pier, is on the main page.
